My Baby Vomited Blood! – Cracked Nipples

I had just arrived home from the hospital with my newborn baby daughter when she vomited up blood all over my white T Shirt! I was all alone as my husband had taken my little boy for a play at the park, and my mum had gone to do the supermarket shopping, I thought my baby was having a haemorrhage, vomiting up her insides! I couldn’t breathe through panic, I called the 24 hr Maternal Health Line who calmed me down and asked whether I had cracked nipples – Yes I did? – The lovely nurse explained my baby had …

Breast Pump – I Love the New Medela Swing Maxi!

If only the Medela Swing Maxi had been invented when I was still breast-feeding! It’s totally brilliant, super quick, easy and light to use and expresses so much milk – everything you need in a brilliant breast pump. I used a breast pump for both babies, actually it was a an electric double Medela breast pump that I hired from the chemist, it did an amazing job, but it certainly wasn’t something I could pop in my bag, suitcase was more like it! I cannot recommend Medela breast pumps enough, the double breast pump got me through two severe cases …

My kids Eat McDonalds & Freddo Frogs!

I have a confession to make, I use food to bribe my children. And no it’s not healthy food, it’s in the form of Freddo Frogs, McDonalds and Ice Cream. I don’t do it all the time, just in cases of emergency… like having to do a million things in one afternoon – with children. I strap my daughter in the pram, and the only way she will sit there happily whilst I go to the bank, post office, Medicare etc is if she has chocolate Freddo Frogs, and yes more than one! Am I a bad mother? I don’t …

Bottle Battlers VS Breast is Best

Bottle feeders can feel like social outcasts – I can say this because I was one, and even though it was nearly ten years ago I felt so guilty and judged for bottle feeding my baby. I’m going out on a limb to talk about bottle feeding as mothers today are made to feel unacceptable if they are unable to breast feed, and all mothers, whatever their feeding choices should have support. Breast is best, and nearly every Australian mother knows about it, the benefits of breast milk are tremendous and wonderful. But knowing all of this information and desperately …

Morning & Afternoon Tea

Do you give your children morning or afternoon tea? If so have you ever struggled with what to give so they don’t get too full and eat all their dinner? I have many times, so I asked a fabulous expert to share with us some of her great advice – Eve Reed is a leading paediatric dietitian. She started Familyfoodworks to support parents to take the stress out of feeding their children. Children from about one year of age need to be offered the opportunity to eat five times a day, with nothing in between these times, apart from water. Parents …
